Halloween In The Scottish Highlands

Posted on Tuesday, 19 October 2010 07:06AM by Scottish Highland News
Some destinations and venues in the Scottish Highlands close down for the winter, but many do not.  As Halloween draws near, there is a wide variety of activities to enjoy, whether you fancy spooky nights out or are looking for something a little more family friendly.  Strathspey Steam Railway in Aviemore (http://www.strathspeyrailway.net/specialevents.html) is holding its Wizard Weekend on 30 and 31 October, offering a ride on the train with ghoulish travelling companions, traditional Halloween games, and a haunted train car.  Children in costumes travel free!  Fraser Castle, located on the edge of the Highlands just in Aberdeenshire, (http://www.nts.org.uk/Events/Detail/882/) is holding a Spooktacular Hallowe’en on 31 October which includes storytelling, magic shows, and face painting, as well as a carved pumpkin or turnip competition.  On Saturday, 30 October, Brodie Castle, between Nairn and Forres, is having Hocus Pocus, dooking for apples, and a scary Hallowe’en walk on the grounds.  Malice in Wonderland, a participatory Halloween show, launches the Inverness Winter Festival.  The cast sports over 100 members, and the audience has the opportunity to walk a short circuit around Ness Islands.  Check the local and regional newspapers for more event listings, as well as the Highland Council (http://www.highland.gov.uk/leisureandtourism/events/) and other regional council websites.
