Grantown on Spey

Grantown on Spey - the capital of Strathspey lies just 15 miles north east from Aviemore. Set on the banks of the famous River Spey, this unique Georgian designed town remains a popular destination attracting visitors from all over the area.

The town itself displays culture and history. Its wide streets are lined with trees, with an attractive town central square. Grantown provides not just a superb holiday destination but is loved by all who visit and those who live as residents alike.

The Mighty River Spey is famous for being a great place for fishing, premier salmon and trout fishing starts in February and increases thoughout the summer. The rivers clean and unspoilt waters provides the many Whisky Distilleries with the pure water they need for whisky production. The Speyside Way - long distance footpath is also walked by many which follows the river.

The town was founded in 1765 as a planned settlement on a low plateau beside the river Spey. It forms an ecclesiastical centre of sorts and has moved counties over its long and distinguished history.
