Storehouse of Foulis

Perched alongside the Cromarty Firth is a lively eatery and farm shop called the Storehouse of Foulis.  This delightful roadside stop is far more than just that.  With stunning views across the firth to the Black Isle, regular visits from seals, and an abundance of birdlife, the Storehouse of Foulis is a lovely combined experience of excellent dining, shopping, and sightseeing.

Although they bill their restaurant as self-service, it is really far more than that.  In cafeteria style, you choose from the many tempting homemade hot dishes, wonderful gourmet sandwiches and salads, excellent fish and chips, and a wide variety of decadent desserts and baked goods.  Everything is fresh and locally-sourced.  The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, afternoon tea, and snacks, and is generally open from 9:00 AM until 6:00 PM, or until 5:00 PM on Sundays.  The restaurant staff are attentive and go out of their way to serve you with a smile.  Although you place your order and pay at the counter, cafeteria-style, there will be plenty of waiters and waitresses available to bring your order to your table, refill your water glass, and provide anything else you need for a satisfying dining experience.  The restaurant offers magnificent views with windows on all sides.  The dining room is cosy and comfortable, for relaxed, casual dining.  Tables are available outside for you to enjoy your meal along the shore on warmer days.  The only problem when stopping at Foulis is deciding what to order!  Their cheese scones are out of this world, and so are their fine array of chocolate cakes and desserts—truly a chocoholic’s dream.  Hot meals and carvery meals are prepared fresh daily and served up in generous portions.  Salads, soups, and sandwiches are fresh and satisfying.  Finally, you can choose from a range of teas, coffees, juices, and wines to round out your meal.  You may come hungry but you will go away happy.

After your meal, step across the foyer into the farm shop.  This little store has a delightful and interesting selection of local produce, gourmet sauces and condiments, fresh fish and meats, local cheeses, and special seasonal treats.  Freshly-baked breads such as are used in the restaurant are available for purchase to take home with you.  There is a deli counter with antipasto favourites including a variety of cheeses and olives.  Along with the fantastic food, you will also find charming country-style gifts, toiletries, and kitchenware.  In the summer, you just can’t leave without an Orkney Ice Cream cone!

The Storehouse of Foulis also offers a variety of catering and function services, a picnic service, and a place for meetings, conferences, and parties in the evenings.  There is a local heritage museum on the site where you can learn about the wildlife and history of the region.

The Storehouse of Foulis is well worth the stop.  Popular with locals as well as visitors, you will find it busy and bustling year round.  Enjoy a stroll along the shore, watch the seals and shore birds, stop and rest on a bench with a view…then come inside for a fabulous meal, enjoying great food at a very reasonable price, excellent service, and a superb Highlands view.  Before you leave, stop in the Farm Shop and take home some of the fabulous food prepared on site or produced locally, and don’t forget a gift for someone special, or maybe yourself!  Don’t drive by the Storehouse of Foulis without stopping.  Located on the A9 just north of the Cromarty Bridge in Ross-shire, the Storehouse of Foulis is ready to treat you to something special.
