Plans to electrify part of the Edinburgh-Glasgow Railway have been announced by Transport minister Keith Brown. He is expected to unveil the details in a visit to Glasgow Queen Street Station, which will become a world-class transport hub. It is thought hundreds of jobs will be created by the scheme, which aims to deliver a more reliable train service between the cities.
He will also report on the progress of the electrification of the Cumbernauld line, which should be confirmed on target, ready for Glasgow hosting the Commonwealth Games in 2014.
