Meeting on Inverness Beechwood campus plan

Posted on Tuesday, 01 November 2011 06:38AM by Judy and the Peak District Online Team
It has been proposed to develop Beechwood as a base for the University of the Highlands and Islands and a research and business centre.

Highland Council granted planning permission in principle in May.

In August, councillors deferred making a decision on the masterplan however, following concerns about how traffic would access the site.

The plan and design guidelines are crucial to full planning permission being granted.

Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) is leading the campus project.

The agency said that once it was completed the campus could potentially support up to 6,000 jobs over the next 30 years and generate more than £38m annually for the economy.

Last month, HIE said no major changes have been made to plans on how traffic would access the site after councillors deferred a decision on the masterplan.

HIE said experts' advice was that there should a cross roads created at the main entrance to the campus.

Westhill Community Council has been campaigning for a roundabout, arguing that it would better handle traffic.
