The Inverness Leisure Centre has won two distinctive awards as a result of its recent assessment. First, they have earned four stars as a visitor attraction from Visit Scotland. This means a great deal to the centre, which only missed the rating by a few points during their last assessment. The facility is now classed as a “facility of excellence.” Customer service is top priority with the staff at Inverness Leisure Centre and they are proud of this award indicating as much. There is a facility users group which has been making ad-hoc assessments throughout the past year and offering guidance to the staff from a customer’s point of view. Staff have been doing all they can to make customer visits enjoyable, positive, and excellent.
The centre has also won a Gold rating by Visit Scotland’s Green Business Tourism Scheme. The centre has a staff led Green Team which has been working hard over the past twelve months to become more efficient and environmentally friendly. Their efforts have paid off. Although some of the Green Team’s decisions have been controversial—removing all trash bins from the parking areas to encourage visitors to recycle instead—their forward thinking won them an award. Recycling stations are located all around the centre. Before these were installed, staff were removing 30 bags of rubbish from the car parks each week. Now, they are removing only 5 bags. Litter has been reduced and more items are being recycled.
James Martin, the Inverness Leisure Centre’s General Manager has said, “This is another huge achievement for my team at Inverness Leisure and further enhances our growing multi-award winning status. Things have not always been easy for the facility and we have staff who have been through some immense challenges over the years which is something that we neither forget nor take for granted. It is therefore through awards like these that my team and I are able to offer a guarantee to our customers that we continue to do all we can to make their visit as enjoyable, exciting and “green” as possible.”
Inverness Leisure Centre has much to be proud of in the winning of these two awards. The General Manager is proud, and he thanks his over 150 member staff for their commitment and belief in the Leisure Centre.
