House sites on offer in West Harris

Posted on Wednesday, 08 June 2011 06:02AM by Judy and the Peak District Online Team
West Harris Trust has agreed a closing date for applications for the first six sites to be released for housing.

The sites will be sold at prices between £15,000 and £20,000 with a condition attached that they will be for permanent residence.

Three of the sites are in Luskentyre, two at Horgabost and one at Scaristavore.

Sites will be allocated based on the Trust’s policy which will is to prioritise young families and those able to help the community to broaden and expand economic activity.

Neil Campbell, Secretary of the West Harris Trust said: "The community of West Harris took ownership of the West Harris Estates in January 2010 with the aim of strengthening the community, eighteen months later we are ready with the co-operation of the townships to allocate six sites to help retain or to attract new families to the area. In addition a contract has been awarded to build a small hydro scheme to provide a sustainable income to the Trust and funding has been awarded to employ a full-time development officer. These achievements in such a short time are testament to the dedication and hard work of the volunteer directors and show what can be achieved by a community working together."

All those interested in acquiring a site including those who have previously expressed an interest to complete an application form available as a download from our website. This form is to be returned by 12 noon on Friday the 1st July to the West Harris Trust, Old Hostel, Tarbert, Isle of Harris HS3 3BG or by e-mail to info@westharristrust.org
