Great Glen Way

A 73 mile long distance path, the Great glen way runs along the Great Glen from Fort William to the City of Inverness. There a few ways to travel the Great Glen Way, one of them which is very pleasant which we recommend is from Fort William Town all the way to Inverness.

Some adventurous ones who intend to do more than 73 miles, choose to put the Great Glen Way and the West Highland way together. However this route if you choose to take it, results in a 168 mile venturing from Glasgow all the way to Inverness.

Below we have a rough outline of the Great Glen Way:

1: Fort William to Gairlochy ( 11 miles ). To start, go to the roundabout north of the dual carragway which goes alongside Loch Linnhe. If you can find the Railway station youre close to the official starting point. Going out of Fort William, there is the Inverlochy Castle and then you will cross the river lochy to then start the caladonian canal. Although the Caladonian Canal goes alongside most of the Great Glen Way, the Neptunes Staircase is worth all the effort. A Staircase of eight lochs gives the canal a total of 70ft more in height. Now it's all about getting to Gairlochy which is at the south of Loch Lochy. Once you have got to Gairlochy you'll likely want to stay in some Accommodation in the Scottish Highlands. In outr Directory you will find many Hotels, Bed and Breakfast, Youth Hostels, or Campsite and Caravan Parks.
