CRUMBLING: The cliffs overlooking Pennan are in need of essential repair works

A Stonehaven firm has been selected to carry out essential repair work on the crumbling cliffs overlooking an iconic north-east village.

Banff and Buchan councillors agreed unanimously yesterday to award the contract for the work at Pennan to plant-hire company WM Donald.

The deal, worth £180,000, is the first phase of a wider improvements scheme which Aberdeenshire Council hopes will help avoid a repeat of landslides that have hit the coastal settlement.
