The Duke of Gordon Hotel is situated in the heart of the Scottish Highlands, which is located in one of the last truly unspoilt parts of the world. The Hotel looks out across the picturesque Spey Valley to Ruthven Barracks that was built in 1715 on the site of an earlier stone castle, which was constructed in the 1300's by the ancestors of the Seven Dukes of Gordon.
It was at Ruthven that Bonnie Prince Charlie was to rendezvous with the clans after their defeat at the Battle of Culloden. But instead fled into exile on the Isle of Skye.
The Scottish Highlands and the Duke Of Gordon have enchanted Royalty through the ages, dating back to the visit of Queen Victoria and her devoted consort in 1861. Come and discover why Her Majesty was so inspired that she made specific reference to the visit in her personal diaries.
It is one of the last unspoilt natural wilderness of Europe. It is a land dominated by rock and stream, river and mountain, steeped in history and heritage dating back 4000 years.
Kingussie is the ancient capital of Badenoch and the homeland of the seven Dukes Of Gordon. The outlawed son of King Robert II of Scotland. The notorious villain known as the Wolf of Badenoch also resided here in Ruthven Castle.
